MURALS
FOR THE FAMILIES, 2016 |
PRIOR TO THE ARRIVAL of their twin boys, my gift to my cousin Jamie and her husband Dave was to create a room full of imagination and childhood wonder. The couple loved owls and wanted a space where their boys would wake up and imagine these birds coming alive. The room is full of white trees placed against a dark blue background, with several playful, cuddly owls seated along the limbs with a slow scattering of leaves as if the late fall wind had just taken the last of them.
After completion, Jamie and Dave stared intensely at an owl in the far corner. Dave turned to me and said, "This one looks just like my father." His father had passed away a year ago, so seeing this addition made the mural as if he was still there, looking after their boys. |
WALKING THROUGH THE ASPENS, 2011
A COLORADO COUPLE was expecting in 2011 and desired an Aspen tree mural on one wall of a not yet occupied baby room. They wanted to feel like they were in the woods, walking amongst the Aspens in the winter time. After some sketches were agreed upon, this was the final result. Two years later they needed to move and sent me this picture of their little girl in front of the mural. They said this was the saddest part about leaving their house because every day when they walked into this room, the mural brought them joy.

EQUALITY AND AWARENESS: LGBTQ
The mural club and the GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) collaborated together in 2014 on the creation of this mural. A group of eight motivated students directed by myself, designed and completed a mural on four 6'x4' panels. The mural's purpose was to raise awareness around love for all, peace, and equality. This currently resides in the third floor stairwell at George Washington High School, Denver, CO.
ACACIA JADE STUDIOSThis mural was commissioned by Acacia Jade Studios. The design was their business logo and owners Justin and Wesley wanted it painted on a movable wall inside their music studio. They had built their own studio and the business was growing, but it needed art. As one enters the studio, the first wall seen has the mural. I added in glow-in-dark paint along the background, so when the lights are dim the silhouette of the tree would be vibrant. They eventually moved their studio into a bigger space taking with them this mural. Completed in 2015.

EDUCATIONAL MURAL, 2012
This mural is located inside George Washington High, Rm. 24 on two 6'x4' doors, and was completed in 2012. Imagery was based on a contrast of emotions reflected through the blues and reds. Tears seems to emerge from the figure's eyes pouring over into the base of the mural, splashing up into the viewer. It is used to teach students about visual communication, use of complementary colors, and underpainting.
MURAL IN STUDIOEver since my trip to Puerto Rico, my love of the ocean has grown into a deep respect. While there I learned how to surf and found a new respect for myself. The surfer girl theme has continued into my work, and this one is drawn on the walls of my studio, greeting you at the base of the stairs. Completed in 2015.
